The Penn State Sex Scandal - Penn State Child Abuse Scandal

Posted by Patrick Lundgren on Fri, Nov 11, 2011 @ 03:22 PM

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Never has than phrase been truer than in this case.  The Penn State child abuse sex scandal will go down in history as one of the biggest sports-related scandals in the history of this country.

The most mind-numbing thing about the entire fiasco is the level of blind support for Joe Pa, the coach at Penn State, by the student body.  It is no secret to the rest of the country how important football is to the middle american states, but people from the coasts never truly understand the emotional connection southerners have to football and its leaders, till this case.  The men involved showed negligence, and allowed young children to be taken advantage of, right in the open.  It is that simple.  The worst part is the arrogance of the perpretator and the way he went about it, right into the open.  I don't have the stomach to write out all the details, but if you'd like to read it, you may go to this page at Deadspin.

I believe that all parties involved should be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law, everyone from the culrpit Jerry Sandusky, to the Athletic Director Tim Curley, the president of the university Graham Spanier, Joe Paterno (Jo Pa) the coach, and the original eye-witness, Mike McQueary.  All these men were in a position of power, and with power, comes responsibility.  They chose to turn a blind eye, and in return, should be punished accordingly.

The most convenient part about this whole thing is that all the details surfaced only one week after Joe Paterno notched the title of winningest coach in the history of football.  Very convenient indeed.
