DIY Home Renovation Tips

Renovations are something any home eventually goes through. Whether it is something you hire contractors for or it is something you do yourself, it carries a price tag with it that cannot be ignored. The DIY approach allows you to save some money in the process, as long as you have the proper skills to deal with everything involved. We will cover some ideas in this article that may be of use to you:

  • Replace or Refinish your Kitchen Cabinets

You should consider the repainting or laminating of your exiting cabinet doors so you can renew they way they look, giving them more life ahead of them. You should order one door or drawer front at a time to get a better idea whether they will work for you. It would also be a good idea to check what colors would fit your place better.

  • Buying new handles and knobs

You should replace any old wood knobs or handles with stainless ones. On the other hand you can also replace the old metal ones with glass ones if you don't like the cold feel under your fingertips.

You can install lights on the ceiling surface or walls to provide additional illumination in your kitchen or other rooms. The extra light will be useful in activities such as reading, cooking and more.

  • Insulate your home

You should place caulk around the windows and other spaces between floors and floorboards. Make sure your home has a minimized heat loss by locating all problem spots. You can buy a draft stopper for all windows and doors that block the passing of air from these cracks.

  • Place tiles on the bathroom floor or the kitchen backsplash

These surfaces must be flat and dry before you do that. Having a cement or a plywood subfloor will work just fine. Covering these surfaces with new tiles will provide you with better insulation from water as well as a non-slippery and easier to clean surface.

  • Replace your faucets

You can not only make your bathroom or kitchen look new by installing a new faucet, but it will also make it more efficient in the long run. The upgrade of one of those is usually very easy if you are not using a wall-mounted fixture of the older kinds.

  • Put up wainscoting

It is a bit of an old-fashioned decoration solution, but it actually allows you to completely transform your home into something else entirely. All you need to do is purchase the wainscoting based on the measurements you have taken, the rail and baseboard and the glue and nails to put it up. Installing it is not difficult and the results are pretty.

DIY Renovation Tips
  • Paint your surfaces

Although this is a very obvious solution, you should still not underestimate the power of a good coat of paint. You can combine different paints and stencils to create a truly unique environment in any room with a bit of imagination.
