Moving Survivor Kit

Moving home can be a stressful ordeal, with all the packing, unpacking, relocating, loading and unloading, sometimes you just don’t have the time and energy to un-box everything when you arrive in your new home. In all the hoopla it’s easy to simply forget some of the basic essentials you may need, so whilst you’re packing, label one of those boxes as ‘’survival kit’’ and put the following inside:

Toilet paper

There’s nothing worse than arriving in your new home, running to the bathroom, realising you’ve forgotten to pack this essential item and need to run to your local shop to get some, or forgetting which box it’s in.

Scissors

You’ve packed your boxes nice and tight, there’s no chance at all of a box breaking or something falling out, perfect….now where did you leave the scissors? A pair of scissors will definitely come in handy to cut into these well packed boxes, just be sure not to heavily tape the survivors kit with the scissors inside!

Trash bags

So you’ve arrived in your new place and if you’re anything like me the idea of cooking just isn’t at the top of the list. No I’m not suggesting you eat the bin liners! I am suggesting that having a bin to put the takeout containers in after you’ve finished, is probably a good idea. Moving House Survivor Kit

Phones

Well that or your mobile phone charger. For most people nowadays the house phone is something that’s used for dreaded cold callers, but some companies (like takeout restaurants) actually prefer to be called from a land line, so they know they’re not being given the run around by some bored teenagers. However what I feel is the important item when I say phones, is a mobile phone charger; which should definitely be in the box.

First aid kit

This can be as simple as some plasters and bandages, but what usually happens when moving furniture and boxes TW11, is cuts and grazes. Besides - what’s a survival kit without a first aid kit inside!

Flashlights

Power cuts can happen at the most inconvenient of times, having a flashlight in the survivors pack, could prevent hours of searching through boxes in the dark. Cleaning solutions and paper towels Imagine arriving at your perfect new home to find its former residents didn’t leave it in the best condition….enough said.

Cleaning essentials

Okay, if you’re not like me, then when you arrive you may want to break out the pots and pans, and cook up a storm. After you’re finished washing up essentials like; a sponge, washing up liquid and tea towels, will come in handy.

Soap

After a long day of moving, the first thing you may want to do in your new home is have a shower or bath. So whatever your preference, I advise adding your soap, bubble bath, shower gels and shampoos to the kit.

Toothpaste and brush

If you’ve arrived late to your new place and don’t have time to find the toiletries box, you may want to have your toothbrush nearby.

Small Umbrella

This one is really dependent on the weather that day, for example, if it’s been too sunny to wear a coat, but rain is expected later that day, I would definitely add in one of these items. Take an umbrella along with you for a quick dash to the house without getting drenched, or a mac if you actually plan on helping the movers from Ealing with offloading the boxes and bring them in to the house (carrying a box and an umbrella at the same time may be tricky). A bottle of wine and some plastic glasses Okay so it may not really be an essential, but if there’s still space and you want to toast the new place, put it in.
